Internationally reputed autism specialist Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and eminent nuclear scientist Wazed Miah, granddaughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is celebrating her birthday today. He was born on this day in 1972.

Saima Wazed Putul is a renowned autism specialist. She is working on autistic children and their rights worldwide. The psychologist is the Regional Director for South-East Asia of the World Health Organization and a member of the Expert Panel on Mental Health. SEARO is one of the six regional offices of the World Health Organization, which is composed of representatives from member countries.

Saima Wazed started working on issues related to autism and neurological complications in children since 2008. Within a short time, his work was appreciated worldwide. In September 2014, Putul was awarded the WHO Excellence Award.

Psychologist Saima Wazed Putul also worked as a consultant at the US-based research organization Autism Speaks. Since June 2013, he has been included in the WHO’s expert advisory panel on mental health.

Saima Wazed Putul researched on the development of women in Bangladesh while studying at Barry University in Miami, Florida, USA. His research on the subject was recognized as the best scientific presentation by the Florida Academy of Sciences. She graduated from Barry University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1997, a master’s degree in clinical psychology in 2002 and a specialist degree in school psychology in 2004.

In 2011, Saima Wazed Putul organized the first international conference on autism in Dhaka. Saima Wazed Putul’s husband’s name is Khandaker Mashroor Hossain. They have 3 daughters and 1 son.

Later, while studying at Barry University, she did research on the development of women in Bangladesh. His work was recognized as the best scientific presentation by the Florida Academy of Sciences.
